Integrated 3D petroleum system model for shale gas/oil reservoirs in the Beetaloo Sub-basin & SPE QLD AGM

April 20, 2021 @ 11:45 am - 2:00 pm AEST

AUD15 – AUD77
  • « Developing Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage Projects
  • Swell Packer Performance in the Waloons Coal Measures »

Presenter: Dr Mohinudeen Faiz

The presentation will summarise key uncertainties in deciphering the ~1.3 billion year old petroleum system of the Beetaloo Sub-basin and its impact on evaluating source-rock-reservoirs within the Velkerri and Kyalla formations. In particular, sediment provenance, thermal history, impact of maturation kinetics of cyanobacteria and gas adsorption properties on the distribution of hydrocarbon types, storage and flow behaviour will be discussed.

Biography of Mohinudeen Faiz:

Dr Mohinudeen Faiz is a petroleum geoscientist with ~30 years’ experience in operational and R&D projects. Currently he is a Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO Energy where he focuses on integrated petroleum systems analyses for conventional and unconventional reservoirs. Previously, as Origin Energy’s organic geochemistry SME, Faiz contributed to unconventional petroleum exploration projects and built the petroleum system model for initial drilling exploration wells in the Beetaloo Basin. Since joining CSIRO in 2018, he has continued to work on Beetaloo Basin’s source-rock-reservoir system through integrating key aspects of CSIRO’s research into an advanced 3D petroleum system model. Faiz also has extensive expertise in coal seam gas exploration and development in various basins in Australia and southern Africa.
